Maine Native Ryan Flaherty: Returning Home ‘Makes It A Little More Special’ (Video)

Sunday was a special day at Fenway Park, as the Boston Red Sox honored their northern New England neighbors by celebrating “Maine Day” in their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.

The occasion was especially fitting for Orioles infielder Ryan Flaherty, who grew up in Portland, Maine, and was named the Pine Tree State’s Gatorade High School Player of the Year during his senior year at Deering High School in Portland.

Flaherty got the start at second base on Sunday in front of friends and family at Fenway, and before the game he talked with NESN’s Elle Duncan about what it meant to be back in New England on this special day.

Hear what Flaherty had to say in the video above.
