NFL: St. Louis Rams-Rookie MinicampMichael Sam certainly knows how to handle himself around the press for someone who’s such a “distraction.”

Former NFL coach Tony Dungy recently made comments that came under fire, mostly due to their vagueness. Dungy said he wouldn’t have drafted Sam “not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.”

He clarified his comments Tuesday saying that “it” was the media attention that would come with Sam being the first openly gay NFL player.

ESPN’s Rams writer Nick Wagoner asked Sam about the situation.

Sam could have easily started a fuss over the issue, but instead he handled the matter with class. So in reality, it seems like Sam would be the type of player that a coach would want to handle the press.
