It’s time to begin the second half of the 2014 Major League Baseball season.
The first half was a good one, though some teams might beg to differ. The action should only intensify from here on out as playoff races begin to take shape down the stretch. Contenders will emerge while pretenders will falter.
There also figure to be some interesting individual award races in the second half, as several still are too close to call with most teams nearing the 100-game mark. It’s also always fun to see which players come out of nowhere and bust out following the All-Star break.
Everyone likes to think they know what’s going to happen next. Most of us — some more than others, of course — are wrong more often than not, especially when it comes to predicting sports. Baseball, in particular, is extremely difficult to pinpoint because things can change daily amid each team’s 162-game grind.
The All-Star break offers a perfect opportunity to stare into the crystal ball, however. So let’s swing for the fences and make some bold predictions for the second half of the 2014 season.
