Washington Nationals infielder Anthony Rendon might not be the best spokesperson for Major League Baseball.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season, leading the Nats with a .287 batting average to go along with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs. Those numbers made Rendon one of the biggest snubs of the 2014 MLB All-Star Game, but missing out on all of the festivities was just fine with him, as he told Jason Butt of the Washington Post that he never watched the All-Star Game as a kid.
In fact, even now he rarely watches the sport he excels at.
“I don’t watch baseball — it’s too long and boring,” Rendon said, via washingtonpost.com.
Rendon also revealed that he much prefers to spend his free time watching the programming that the History Channel has to offer.
It’s not just watching the sport that Rendon strays away from, though. According to the interview, he and his family abide by a rule that says they won’t talk about baseball when he comes home to visit.
After playing in 89 of Washington’s 93 games this season, Rendon was certainly looking forward to a few relaxing days away from baseball — days that probably included marathons of “Pawn Stars” and “Ice Road Truckers.”
“I have a bed at home waiting for me to sleep in,” Rendon said before the break. “It’s a good four-day vacation. We have a long season ahead.”
