Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban highlights a list of 20 NHL players who have elected to file for salary arbitration this summer.
The NHLPA released the list on Saturday, and the only Bruins player on it is defenseman Matt Bartkowski. The 26-year-old had a $650,000 salary cap hit during the 2013-14 season, per CapGeek. He tallied 18 points (zero goals, 18 assists) in 64 games with the B’s.
Arbitration hearings will take place in Toronto from July 20 through Aug. 4. The highest salary ever awarded in arbitration was $7.5 million for Nashville Predators defenseman and captain Shea Weber in 2011.
Teams and players usually make a strong effort to work out a new contract before arbitration because the hearings often are unpleasant as both sides argue why their dollar figure is most accurate.
