Joey GalloNo one really knows what kind of Major League Baseball player Joey Gallo will be one day, but there’s no denying he already has big-league power. He proved that in a big way Sunday.

Gallo stole the show at the Futures Game in Minnesota as MLB’s All-Star Game festivities got underway at Target Field. The big third baseman left a lasting impression by showing what he can do with a bat in his hands.

That started in batting practice. With some of the game’s top prospects in attendance, BP at the Futures Game is a can’t-miss event, and Gallo lived up to the hype. Gallo was dropping jaws with an incredible power display, which included him hitting a home run off a pick-up truck parked in the stadium’s concourse way beyond the right-field fence.

Gallo wasn’t done there, though, carrying his power into the game. He absolutely crushed a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning when he turned on a 95-mph fastball and put it into Target Field’s second deck.

That homer propelled Team USA to a 3-2 win and earned Gallo the game’s MVP award.

No one knows for sure where Gallo’s career will go. His power is undeniable, but the rest of his game isn’t close to that level. While Gallo has 31 home runs this season in the minors, he also has 113 strikeouts in just 85 games, which shows there are still some sizable holes in his swing. But when he does get his bat on the ball, it usually goes very far, as was the case Sunday.
