Jake Peavy knows his time with the Boston Red Sox could be over soon, and that’s something he’s started to prepare himself for with the trade deadline approaching. That doesn’t mean it will be any easier to leave Boston for the veteran right-hander.
Peavy has fallen in love with being a member of the Red Sox since being acquired at the deadline a year ago. Peavy fit seamlessly into the Sox clubhouse, and he has embraced what it means to play in Boston since coming over from the Chicago White Sox. The right-hander has been the subject of trade rumors recently, and he was very forthcoming following Tuesday night’s loss to the White Sox.
“As a player, what you did last year is all I ever dreamed about,” he told reporters. “This place is held in the highest regard it could ever be held in. I’ll always want to do what’s best for the Boston Red Sox. That could very possibly be me being moved to save money for the Boston Red Sox or get a player or two or create roster space for somebody to come up and take my spot. That’s the reality of the situation.
“I’ll always want to do what’s best for Boston. Although, when I told you what was so special about last year was the brotherhood that I have with 10 or so guys on this team. I take pride on being a man, but I hope ya’ll aren’t around to see me cry like a baby. Because when that day does come, it’s going to be tough to look some guys in the eye and I won’t be on their team.”
