Jarome Iginla, Milan LucicJarome Iginla is expected to have a lot of formal interest when the clock strikes noon Tuesday, and the Vancouver Canucks are expected to be one of the teams after the veteran winger.

TSN’s Farhan Lalji reported early Tuesday morning (with a stick tap to ProHockeyTalk.com) that the Canucks will make a “big push” for Iginla when NHL free agency opens.

There’s certainly a connection in Vancouver for Iginla. Jim Benning, the Canucks’ new general manager, was an assistant GM in Boston during Iginla’s one season with the Bruins. As Lalji points out, Iginla also is said to have a good relationship with Canucks president Trevor Linden.

There’s no shortage of reported suitors for the 37-year-old winger. A handful of teams reportedly are interested in Iginla, who’s said to be looking for a two-year deal.
