Chad Johnson was not re-signed by the Boston Bruins after the 2013-14 season, and it didn’t take him long to find a new home when NHL free agency began Tuesday.
The veteran goalie has agreed to a two-year contract with the New York Islanders, per Arthur Staple of Newsday.

Johnson was the league’s best backup last season with a 17-4-3 record, a .925 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average. He likely will play a backup role for the Islanders, who signed Jaroslav Halak to a four-year contract last month to be their starter.
New York ranked 28th in goals against and 29th in penalty killing last season, which made finding a better goalie tandem a top priority for general manager Garth Snow.
The Islanders should contend for a playoff spot in 2014-15 with improved goaltending and the return of top center and captain John Tavares, who missed the final two months of last season after suffering an injury at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
