Journeyman pitcher Rich Hill can add a third team to his whirlwind 2014 season.
The New York Yankees signed the veteran left-hander to a minor league deal Thursday to bolster their pitching depth, according to The Journal News. Hill started this year with the Pawtucket Red Sox, where he posted a 3.23 ERA in 39 innings at the Triple-A level.
The Los Angeles Angels then acquired Hill from Boston on July. The Massachusetts native appeared in just two games for the Angels — never recording an out — and was subsequently released on July 11.
With star pitchers Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia on the disabled list, the Yankees are in need of extra arms. Hill might not be the best option for the Bronx Bombers, but he does give New York another pitcher for the bullpen or back end of the starting rotation.
Hill will start his Yankees’ stint with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
