Carmelo Anthony and Kobe Bryant Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant really wants the Los Angeles Lakers to add another star to their roster.

That desire apparently is so great that Bryant returned from his European vacation late Wednesday night in order to be present for the Lakers’ pitch to free agent Carmelo Anthony on Thursday, according to ESPN sources.

Bryant, who has a long history and friendship with Anthony, reportedly flew back to Los Angeles because he felt it was important that he help make the pitch to the seven-time All-Star.

The Lakers will join the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets as the teams that have pitched Anthony, who won the NBA scoring title in 2013.

The Lakers believe Anthony would complement Bryant and forward Pau Gasol well, according to ESPN sources. Gasol, who is an unrestricted free agent, met Tuesday with the Lakers. Gasol can sign for more money with the Lakers and would be more inclined to do so if the team added Anthony, according to ESPN sources.

The Lakers also have expressed interest in trying to add free agent LeBron James, though James has not formally met with any teams.
