Report: MLB COO Rob Manfred ‘Heavily Favored’ To Become Next Commissioner

MLB chief operating officer Rob Manfred seemed to be Selig’s handpicked choice for a while, but some owners were wary of Selig having total control over the selection process. Sources say that others have now interviewed for the position — which will be open when Selig retires in January — but Manfred is still the front-runner.

Some rumors came about Thursday when executive vice president for baseball operations Joe Torre was asked if he would be interested in the position, but it seems as though his name wasn’t in the discussion.
