BswBJhBIgAA7eZ0The Sacramento Kings were engaged in talks with the Detroit Pistons in late June about acquiring forward Josh Smith, and it appears as though those conversations have resumed.

The Pistons and Kings are talking again about a deal that would send Smith, a 28-year-old forward, to Sacramento, according to ESPN sources with knowledge of the talks.

Initial talks from last month called for the Kings to send Jason Thompson and either Jason Terry or Derrick Williams to the Pistons for Smith, but those talks ended as both teams handled their free-agent business, according to ESPN.

A potential trade could impact the Boston Celtics, as well, as acquiring Smith could be Sacramento’s way of courting long-time friend Rajon Rondo. The Kings would have a backcourt of Smith, Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins already in place, which could be seen as an attractive option for Rondo.

Cousins recently said Rondo was the best point guard in the NBA in an interview with Grantland’s Bill Simmons.
