NFL: New England Patriots-Training CampFOXBORO, Mass. — Rob Gronkowski still isn’t ready to compete in full contact drills, but he had one of the league’s best defenders lining up across from him during New England Patriots training camp practice on Tuesday.

Gronkowski was working individually with quarterback Tom Brady and tight ends coach Brian Daboll when head coach Bill Belichick brought over cornerback Darrelle Revis. Revis and Gronkowski weren’t going all out or full speed, but the tight end said it as nice to have a defender across the line of scrimmage.

“It’s good. He’s a good player,” Gronkowski said Tuesday at Gillette Stadium after training camp. “It’s good to have him out there. Even though it wasn’t full or anything, just having him out there shadowing you, running some routes. It’s good to get that work in. It’s good to have that defender around you, so you know what it’s like to have a defender right up.”

Gronkowski is still limited to participating in individual drills and walkthrough team drills, and he said there’s no timetable in place for when he’ll be able to ramp up his activity.

“It’s just tough sitting out whatever drill it is, whatever period it is, but you just got to keep working through,” Gronkowski said. “Got to keep working hard so when it comes down to it, I can be out there with my teammates in those drills.”
