Tour de France Stage 2 winner Vincenzo Nibali was untouchable during Sunday’s race. Unfortunately for him, though, a podium girl felt the same.

The Italian cyclist won his first-ever Tour stage when he broke away from the pack with about a mile remaining in the 125-mile course, but things didn’t go as smoothly for him during the celebration. As Nibali was given the yellow jersey, he received flowers from the podium girl on his right and he leaned over and gave her two polite kisses on the cheek in return.

The exchange went smoothly enough, but his ego must have taken a serious hit when he tried his luck with the girl on his left.

The second girl was having none of it, as she turned away and pretty brutally rejected the 29-year-old. Nibali recovered as casually as he could, transitioning nicely into the ol’ collar-adjusting move.

Fortunately, the stuffed lion came in clutch, serving as a nice consolation prize to kiss instead of the pretty girl. Just like he was hoping, we’re sure.
