Former New England Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham said that looking at a football team during training camp is like “evaluating a swim team when they’re not in the water.”
That’s why the biggest takeaways from Day 1 of Patriots training camp Thursday were the intangibles.
The beginning of this camp marks the return of last season’s injured veterans — Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo, Rob Gronkowski — who bring something to the team other than their football skills. Chatham noted that although you might not have seen anything special, you could definitely hear the veterans getting their guys back into the game.
