Yasiel Puig is no stranger to accomplishing amazing feats on the baseball field.

On Friday, though, the 23-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder might have pulled off his most impressive display of hitting — and running — yet.

Squaring off against San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum in the first inning, Puig narrowly missed a home run on a shot to left-center field and hustled into third base for the triple.

That was only the beginning. The Cuban slugger ripped a line drive into the right field gap in the fifth inning for another triple and laced one to almost the exact same spot an inning later to give him an amazing three triples on the night.

To put Puig’s rare feat in perspective, only one other player in Dodgers history has hit three triples in a game, and that was in 1901. Only 48 major league players have ever hit three triples in a game, the latest being Denard Span in 2010.

That’s a lot of running for Puig, who added a double for good measure to give him 11 total bases on the night.

“I’m tired,” Puig said after the game, via the Associated Press. “I was just trying to hit the ball where nobody was.”

Puig now has eight triples on the season, tying him for second in Major League Baseball. The only player ahead of him? Teammate Dee Gordon, who got in on the fun with his 10th triple of the season in the Dodgers’ 8-1 blowout win.
