The Kansas City Chiefs showed massive improvement last season with Alex Smith at quarterback, and the sides reached an agreement to extend his contract for four more seasons.

“It was a priority of ours to get this deal done and keep Alex in a Chiefs uniform long-term,” Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said in a team release. “Alex is a proven leader on and off the field. He is a special individual with a lot of ability, and we are fortunate to have him here.”
Smith was acquired by the Chiefs from the San Francisco 49ers via trade before the 2013 season. He went on to throw for 3,313 yards and 23 touchdowns with seven interceptions in 15 games.
Kansas City finished the regular season 11-5, then lost in the AFC wild-card round to the Indianapolis Colts.
