It’s not news that MLB pitchers sometimes retaliate against teams or specific players by plunking them in the backside with a pitch.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Alex Wilson may or may not have done that in the seventh inning of Saturday’s contest against the Seattle Mariners. Wilson hit second baseman Robinson Cano, after David Ortiz was hit in the elbow by Charlie Furbush in the bottom of the six, forcing him from the game.
But the cool, calm and collected Wilson insisted it was an accident after the game.
“Unfortunately, I messed up and hit a guy, and they have to warn guys after that,” Wilson said. “It wasn’t really a factor going forward.”
