Brittney Griner dunks hardly are front-page news anymore. Her dunk Sunday night, though, was particularly significant.

Griner intercepted a pass near halfcourt during Game 3 of the WNBA’s Western Conference semifinals and took it the length of the floor for an emphatic slam, becoming the first player ever to dunk in a WNBA playoff game.

Griner’s Phoenix Mercury rolled past the Los Angeles Sparks 93-68 to clinch a spot in the West finals. The former Baylor star was the driving force for the Mercury, shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line for a team-high 21 points.

Phoenix will take on the defending champion Minnesota Lynx in a best-of-three series beginning this Friday.
