Corey Brown received an unexpected call on Monday — but of the best variety.
The 28-year-old outfielder, who signed with the Boston Red Sox as a free agent this offseason, was called up to the big leagues after Allen Craig was placed on the disabled list. The Oklahoma State product has spent parts of three seasons in the majors, but he hasn’t appeared in an MLB game since Sept. 29, 2013, with the Washington Nationals.
Brown provides the Red Sox with a lot of versatility, as he can play all three positions in the outfield, but he also provides an offensive punch. Brown leads Triple-A Pawtucket with 16 home runs, and he also has 39 RBIs on the season.
