David Ortiz had a historic night against the Houston Astros at Fenway Park on Saturday, but it was just another day in the office for him.
Big Papi launched his 400th and 401st home runs, joining a club that consists of only two other Boston Red Sox legends: Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski.
“Whenever you come to this organization to play, you never — you’re not expecting your name to be mentioned right next to those guys,” Ortiz said after the game. “It happens. You do what you gotta do.”
Ortiz was also asked how he’s still able to deliver every night and remain the heart of a struggling ball club.
“Pride. You need to have pride in what you do,” Ortiz said. “You gotta make sure that you go 100 percent out there and you do — you play your best. The fans come in to watch you play, and you gotta give them what they expect.”
