Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Arrelious Benn came up with one of the most unlikely touchdowns of the NFL preseason Friday night in Foxboro.
With the Eagles trailing the New England Patriots by seven late in the first half, quarterback Mark Sanchez fired a pass into the end zone toward a diving Ifeanyi Momah. The 6-foot-7 Boston College product couldn’t haul in Sanchez’s dart, but as he fell to the turf, the ball bounced up and straight into the arms of Benn, who was observing the sequence from behind.
The play was reviewed, but the referee determined Momah’s hand was under the ball when it bounced, and the call of touchdown stood. The scored tied the game at 21 points apiece, but the Pats would go on to win 42-35.
