Six-time Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Amy Van Dyken-Rouen made a promise earlier this summer that she would walk again. Thursday afternoon, she did just that.

Van Dyken-Rouen was paralyzed from the waist down two months ago when she was in a terrible ATV accident. She has spent the last two months in a rehabilitation program in an attempt to relearn life’s basic tasks. With the help of a walker and a bionic device, she stood up and started walking for the first time since the crash.

The road ahead will still not be an easy one for her, but Van Dyken-Rouen has made tremendous progress since starting her rehabilitation.
