Alex Rodriguez Alex Rodriguez hasn’t been on a baseball field since last September. Despite missing this year due to a season-long performance-enhancing drug suspension, one of his bosses said he thinks the veteran will be good to go in 2015.

Rodriguez played in just 265 games from 2011 through 2013, and he can’t play in a major league game this year because of his role in the Biogenesis PED scandal. But New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said Rodriguez will be in game shape even though he’s missed significant time.

“He’s fit,” Steinbrenner said Wednesday, via FOXSports.com. “Alex is a hard worker. Alex will be ready. We’ll just have to go from there, see how he does, see how he responds to playing every day in spring training. Point is, he’s in good shape. And that’s not surprising.”

The 40-year-old third baseman is still owed $61 million over the next three seasons, the final years on his enormous 10-year contract. Rodriguez said he intends on playing out the remainder of his deal with the Yankees.

“I have three years left on my contract starting in 2015 and I hope to play very well and finish my career in New York,” Rodriguez said.
