The Boston Red Sox were in desperate need of a power-hitting outfielder before the trade deadline, and that’s exactly what they got in Yoenis Cespedes.
Cespedes came to Boston from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes. Manager John Farrell spoke about how the team needed his “middle-of-the-order presence” before Friday’s game against the New York Yankees.
“It’s as much raw power as you can find in the game,” Farrell said. “We’ve seen it in game, rather than it being in an exhibition derby type thing, and we’re looking forward to seeing (Cespedes) on the field.”
