Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes accepted David Ortiz’s challenge.

Lester and Gomes, both of whom were traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Oakland Athletics before the Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline, on Wednesday participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. They did so in emphatic fashion.

The duo had been challenged by Ortiz, who was challenged by former Red Sox outfielder Trot Nixon.

Lester and Gomes issued a very interesting challenge of their own after stepping up to the plate. They called out their former Boston teammates who also were traded before the deadline — John Lackey, Andrew Miller, Jake Peavy, Felix Doubront, Stephen Drew — and Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington.

It’s unclear whether Miller has to accept the challenge twice because of the double call-out.
