Keith Olbermann is returning to “The Big Show.”
ESPN announced some of its fall programming plans on Wednesday, and Olbermann will be returning to “SportsCenter,” albeit on a limited basis. According to ESPN, Olbermann will host “key editions” of the network’s signature program.
Additionally, Olbermann’s self-titled nightly talk show will shift from late night to afternoons. According to the ESPN press release, the Emmy-nominated show will air daily at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
The opinionated and sometimes controversial host had a messy end to his first tenure with ESPN, a run that saw Olbermann help turn “SportsCenter” into a pop culture staple. Olbermann left his first go-around with ESPN in 1997 after an ugly divorce with the network.
He bounced around the TV world before returning to ESPN to host “Olbermann” in 2013.
“Keith has had a fantastic return to ESPN and we’re proud of the quality content featured in the first year of ‘Olbermann,’ immediately garnering the program its first Emmy nomination,” ESPN executive vice president of program scheduling and development Norby Williamson said in a statement. “We feel that strategically shifting the time of this show will not only provide access to a broader audience, but gives us greater flexibility for Keith to do cross-platform opportunities, including hosting key editions of ‘SportsCenter’ surrounding major news or events throughout the year, while enabling us to secure a more consistent time slot to showcase his distinctive voice.”
