Sometimes, all it takes is a good slide. Just ask Minnesota Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki.

The Twins trailed the Kansas City Royals by one run in the seventh inning Sunday night. With Suzuki on third base and shortstop Danny Santana at the plate, Minnesota had a golden opportunity to tie the game.

But Santana hit a weak groundball to Royals first baseman Billy Butler that didn’t appear far enough to get Suzuki home. The All-Star catcher decided to test his speed anyway.

Butler’s throw clearly beat Suzuki to the plate, but Suzuki somehow eluded catcher Salvador Perez’s tag with a nifty slide. The play proved crucial, as it propelled Minnesota to a three-run inning and a 4-1 win.
