Tiago IloriThiago Ilori will have to wait at least another year before he becomes a regular player for Liverpool.

Liverpool loaned Ilori to French club Bordeaux on Monday. The 21-year-old defender will spend the 2014-15 season with the Ligue 1 (French first division) club, according to LiverpoolFC.com.

Ilori joined Liverpool from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon in September 2013 but failed to make a first-team appearance with Liverpool. The Reds then loaned Ilori to Spanish club Granada for the second half of the 2013-14 season.

Ilori was part of Liverpool’s traveling squad for its 2014 U.S. Tour, but he failed to supplant the likes of Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Agger in the Reds’ pecking order during preseason training.

Ilori’s development will be in the hands of Bordeaux head coach Willy Sagnol for the next 10 months. Lamine Sane (the club captain), Nicolas Pallois and Marc Planus are the other first-team center backs at Bordeaux.
