Making a radar gun pop usually is a good thing if you’re a baseball player — unless you’re doing so in the driver’s seat, as Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth recently was reminded.
The veteran outfielder was cited for reckless driving on July 6 after he allegedly was nabbed for driving 105 mph in a 55-mph zone, NatsEnquirer.com pointed out Tuesday. Werth was pulled over in Fairfax County, Va.
According to the report, Werth had an Aug. 8 court hearing that will be continued in November.
The Nationals acknowledged the report in an emailed statement, according to Larry Brown Sports.
“The Washington Nationals have been in communication with right fielder Jayson Werth regarding this situation for multiple weeks,” the team said in an email, according to LBS. “Jayson is cooperating with the authorities. As it is an ongoing legal matter, the team has no further comment.”
Virginia is one of the strictest states in the country when it comes to speeding violations, with jail time being sentenced in some instances.
