4:33 p.m.: The Chiefs have released a kicker.

4:10 p.m.: The St. Rams released defensive end Michael Sam on Saturday, the team announced. He was one of 21 players waived by the team.

3:45 p.m.: One of the best corners in the history of the league was cut by the Saints today, according to reports.

Bailey played in just five games for the Denver Broncos in 2013.

3:30 p.m.: After reportedly going AWOL for 48 hours and missing the team’s preseason game against the Giants, cornerback Dmitri Patterson is now looking for a job.

Patterson was suspended for the remainder of the preseason and was set to return this week.

3:20 p.m.: A tough day for the Ventrone family. Former Patriots fan favorite Ross Ventrone was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers, while his brother, Ray Ventrone, was reportedly let go by the 49ers.

In other news, the Bengals will be without their fifth-round draft pick to begin the 2014 season.

3:15 p.m.: The Oakland Raiders took a flier on Greg Little, and apparently it hasn’t panned out.

Little was the Browns’ second-round pick in 2011 and caught eight touchdowns in three seasons in Cleveland.

3 p.m.: With one hour to go, the Buffalo Bills have reportedly waived wide receiver T.J. Graham, who tallied 361 yards and two touchdowns last season.

The Seahawks have also waived cornerback Phillip Adams, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Adams spent part of the 2011 season in New England, where he earned his first career interception.

2:50 p.m.: A surprise cut in San Francisco.

Snyder was on the 49ers for seven seasons from 2005-11 and returned to the team in 2013 to play left guard.

2:16 p.m.: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly released a second-string safety and a backup quarterback.

Wright was the Chicago Bears’ starting strong safety for the last two seasons before he signed with the Bucs in April. Kafka was behind Josh McCown and Mike Glennon on the quarterback depth chart.

1:51 p.m.: The Detroit Lions have parted ways with wide receiver Kris Durham, per Pro Football Talk.

Durham caught 38 passes for 490 yards in 2013 as Matthew Stafford’s No. 2 receiver, but it appears that role will be filled in 2014 by former Seahawk Golden Tate.

1:35 p.m.: The Philadelphia Eagles have finalized their 53-man roster. Kicker Alex Henery is among those who didn’t make the cut, ceding the starting job to rookie Cody Parkey.

1:27 p.m.: The Seattle Seahawks have released offensive tackle Eric Winston, according to Pro Football Talk. Winston was elected president of the NFL Players Association in March.

1:17 p.m.: The Jets continue to trim down their roster, and this time it’s backup quarterback Tajh Boyd getting the ax.

After cutting Boyd, a sixth-round draft pick out of Clemson, the Jets are down to three quarterbacks — Geno Smith, Michael Vick and Matt Simms.

12:39 p.m.: The Jets have confirmed the release of Hill, along with two others.

No word on any cuts from the St. Louis Rams, who still have Michael Sam on their roster after trimming down to 75 players. We might have to wait until just before the deadline for announcement on Sam.

12:16 p.m.: The roster cut pace is starting to pick up. Running back Mikel Leshoure has reportedly been cut by the Detroit Lions, while the Cleveland Browns are reportedly releasing running back Chris Ogbannaya.

The New York Jets also are reportedly planning on waiving wide receiver Stephen Hill.

11:25 a.m.: The Miami Dolphins have released two regular contributors to their 2013 offense, according to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post.

11:20 a.m.: The biggest news of the day so far is not a roster cut at all. Linebacker James Harrison has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Harrison, 36, was released by the Cincinnati Bengals in March after playing in 15 games for the team in 2013. Harrison was named to five Pro Bowls during his 10-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

11 a.m.: Jeff Demps joins BenJarvus Green-Ellis as the second ex-Patriots running back now on the waiver wire.

New England signed Demps as a kick return specialist in 2012 but traded him to the Buccaneers along with a seventh-round pick in April 2013 in exchange for LeGarrette Blount.

10:05 a.m.: Nate Burleson is the first big name without a job Saturday, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Burleson caught 12 touchdowns in four seasons with the Detroit Lions from 2010-13 but missed seven games last season due to injury.

9:40 a.m.: It looks like the Giants are going with one backup quarterback, and it’s not Curtis Painter.

This means that Ryan Nassib, who has impressed in preseason so far, has sole possession of the backup job behind Eli Manning.

9:20 a.m.: Tight end Kellen Davis and running back Dion Lewis are among the first victims on final cut day, according to Pro Football Talk.

Davis won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks last season and tallied 229 receiving yards and two touchdowns with the Chicago Bears in 2012.

Lewis spent two years as a backup on the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011-12 and is the odd man out in a Browns backfield that features Ben Tate, Terrance West and Chris Ogbonnaya.

9:00 a.m.: The day that every NFL reserve player dreads is finally here.

NFL teams must trim their official rosters down to 53 players by 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, which means that a number of promising players will be sent home early over the course of the day.
