Controversies that shouldn’t be controversies seem to follow P.K. Subban everywhere he goes. Apparently the same can be said for his brother, Malcolm Subban.
Malcolm, a goaltender in the Boston Bruins’ organization, recently ruffled some feathers when he said he was rooting for P.K. in the Stanley Cup playoffs this past season. That’s all well and good, of course, except for the fact that P.K. plays for the Bruins’ hated rivals, the Montreal Canadiens.
Malcolm insisted he was just rooting for his brother to do well, and P.K. recently defended his brother’s decision.
“I don’t think Malcolm really cares (what people think),” P.K. said Monday on the Marek vs. Wyshynski podcast. “If you’re not going to cheer for your brother when he’s in the playoffs, I don’t know who you’re supposed to cheer for. Malcolm’s the type of kid — I’m sure that doesn’t bother him very much.”
The Subbans might run into this problem for a long time. P.K. is one of the game’s best players, Malcolm has a bright future and there’s another brother, Jordan, in the Vancouver Canucks’ system. However, P.K. insists they’ll continue to pull for each other — unless they’re squaring off on the ice.
“We all support each other. But I’m sure if (Malcolm) was playing against me, he’s not going to want to see me do well.”
