The Boston Red Sox got in on the Ice Bucket Challenge with the man who helped inspire the viral movement to raise awareness and funds for ALS.

Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks and manager John Farrell joined Pete Frates and his family in front of the Green Monster at Fenway Park on Thursday and took the chilly plunge. They also helped Frates complete the challenge himself for the first time.

Frates, a former Boston College baseball captain who’s battling ALS, started the challenge that has soared in popularity — with thousands of people around the world dumping water on their heads — and has been successful in its aim to raise more money to fight the disease.
