MLB: New York Yankees at Boston Red SoxBOSTON — The Red Sox tinkered with their starting rotation yet again Thursday, sending right-hander Anthony Ranaudo back to Triple-A Pawtucket and calling up right-handed reliever Alex Wilson.

Ranaudo made two starts in his brief stint with the big club, winning both. The 6-foot-7 rookie allowed two runs on four hits and four walks Aug. 1 against the New York Yankees in his major league debut, then let up four runs on eight hits and one free pass in another six-inning start Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds.

Wilson’s call-up is his fifth of the season. He has appeared in three games out of the bullpen for the Red Sox, allowing two runs and six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

With Ranaudo back in the minors, Brandon Workman will reclaim his spot in the rotation, Red Sox manager John Farrell said Thursday. Workman, who has taken the loss in each of his last six outings, including a relief appearance in last week’s 19-inning loss to the Los Angeles Angels, is scheduled to start Monday.
