You can debate whether Andy Dalton is one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, but the Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller is about to be paid like one of the league’s best.
ESPN reports Dalton and the Bengals have come to terms on a six-year contract extension worth $115 million. It’s still unknown how much of that money will be guaranteed. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the contract will be signed at some point Monday.
Dalton is coming off of a solid 2013 regular season, the best of his young career. The TCU product completed 61.9 percent of his passes and notched career-highs with 4,293 yards and 33 touchdowns, as the Bengals ran away with the AFC North title with an 11-5 record.
There’s no questioning Dalton’s effectiveness in the regular season. In the playoffs, however, he’s yet to really prove anything. Dalton is 0-3 in his postseason career, completing just 56.9 percent of his passes. He has just a 56.2 passer rating in the playoffs, thanks in large part to just one touchdown and six interceptions. That includes two interceptions in a 27-10 home loss to the San Diego Chargers last season.
