Report: Dodgers’ Matt Kemp, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett Clear Waivers

Matt Kemp‘Tis the season for Major League Baseball players to be put on waivers, clear waivers and ultimately, watch as nothing happens. But then again, you never know.

CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman reported that a handful of Los Angeles Dodgers passed through waivers Tuesday. Outfielders Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford, as well as starting pitcher Josh Beckett, all went unclaimed. Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez also was claimed on waivers, a source told Heyman.

Despite that, Heyman writes, it’s unlikely that any of them — particularly Kemp and Ramirez — will be moved.

The players who went unclaimed technically can be traded now after clearing waivers. The Dodgers have displayed a willingness to deal after the non-waiver trade deadline, though. They pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox in 2012, sending Beckett, Crawford and first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to L.A.

However, it’s probably unlikely the players will be moved, given their large contracts and the fact the Dodgers are among the National League’s best teams with hopes to make a deep postseason run.

Ramirez is a different story. Heyman believes the shortstop will be blocked from being moved, but the team that claimed him would have three days to work out a trade with the Dodgers.
