Rob Gronkowski’s knee could hold him out when the New England Patriots visit the Miami Dolphins in next month’s season opener.
Gronkowski is “50-50” to play in Week 1, a source with knowledge of the situation told ProFootballTalk.com on Tuesday. Gronkowski is recovering from a torn right ACL, which he suffered during the Patriots’ Week 14 win over the Cleveland Browns last season.
Gronkowski has been limited in Patriots training camp practices so far. He has been practicing in full pads, but he has avoided full-contact drills, including 11-on-11s and 7-on-7s. He has participated in pre-practice walkthroughs and half-speed drills with cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Gronkowski said Sunday that he’s getting “closer every single day” to being in full-contact drills with the Patriots.
