Patrick Kane, Jonathan ToewsThe Hockey News magazine ran an offseason ranking of the best logos in the NHL.

There were a few surprises, chief among them being the Arizona Coyotes ranking No. 2 on the list. The Coyotes have used their current logo and color scheme since the 2003-04 season. It’s an OK — but not great — logo. In fact, some people like their original Coyote logo (1996-97 through 2002-03) even more than the one used presently.

To the surprise of almost no one, the Chicago Blackhawks claimed the top spot. A case easily could be made for the Blackhawks owning the best logo in all of sports, not just hockey.

The St. Louis Blues (No. 3), Detroit Red Wings (No. 4) and Buffalo Sabres (No. 5) rounded out the top five. The Boston Bruins were ranked No. 7, and the Carolina Hurricanes came in at No. 30.
