With the Boston Red Sox seemingly out of contention in the AL East race, it’s time for the team to look at some young players who possibly could make an impact in 2015 and beyond.
The team has already seen Christian Vazquez, Mookie Betts, Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, and they’ve each shown they can play in the major leagues.
There are a few other guys in Pawtucket who are grabbing the attention of the organization and hoping to get a taste of the majors when September rolls around.
Deven Marrero, Henry Owens and Blake Swihart all played on Sunday and did some nice things.
Marrero hit a home run and went 2-for-3 with three runs. Meanwhile, Swihart drove in two runs and went 2-for-4 with a triple. And on the mound, Owens struck out five and walked two in a no decision.
If these guys continue to perform, don’t be surprised if they’re getting some playing time with the big boys soon.
