It’s as if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t embarrass themselves enough Thursday night in their 56-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
One Bucs fan — or, at least, a guy who was dressed like one — helped put the exclamation point on an atrocious night for Tampa Bay football when he ran and got tackled by — no, not security — Freddie Falcon.
Atlanta’s mascot ran onto the field and leveled the fan, symbolizing not only the result of the game, but also the course the NFC South rivalry has taken. Of the last 12 meetings between the Falcons and Bucs, Atlanta has won nine.
Hopefully, this moment also will help discourage fans running onto the field. It’s one thing to just get tackled by a cop. It’s another to be humiliated by a giant, feathery bird.
