Barcelona fans want Thomas Vermaelen to defend the Camp Nou. First, they had to help Vermaelen park at the Spanish club’s venerable stadium Saturday.

Vermaelen was trying to drive into the players’ parking lot at the Camp Nou ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga (Spanish first division) game against Athletic Bilbao when he encountered the tightest of turns. The Belgian defender needed to make a 700- or 800-point turn to navigate his way into the facility. A host of fans and a pair of stewards watched and helped Vermaelen, giving him a raucous ovation when he finally straightened out his situation.

Vermaelen has yet to play for Barcelona, following his £15 million ($25 million) transfer from Premier League club Arsenal this summer. The club says it is because he is recovering from an injury. The cameras suggest there might be other reasons why Vermaelen has yet to make his Barcelona debut.
