After a long, hard battle, Jim Kelly is officially cancer-free.
The Hall of Fame quarterback revealed Thursday that biopsies confirmed there were no signs of the sinus cancer he was diagnosed with in March. Follow-up exams on Aug. 20 yielded the same results, but his doctors at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York ordered the biopsies to be sure.
“This is some of the greatest news I’ve ever gotten,” Kelly said, via the Buffalo Bills’ website. “It’s been a long road, and I’m still not back to 100 percent, but I have a lot to be thankful for.”
“I am so thankful for the support and prayers of my family, my friends near and far and everyone in Western New York and throughout the country through my illness. I also want to thank the medical specialists who have done such amazing work. Most of all, I want to thank God. Without my faith and God’s constant presence, there would be no such thing as ‘Kelly Tough.’”
Kelly also told his daughter that his doctor said the results were “nothing short of a miracle.”
