Brandon MeriweatherWashington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather has made a name for himself over the past seven seasons by making big hits and playing aggressively.

Meriweather’s physical style of play cost him in the preseason this year after an illegal hit to Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith warranted a two-game suspension. The hit was Meriweather’s sixth dangerous hit of his career.

The former New England Patriot returned to Redskins practice on Monday and he promised to clean up his tackling while maintaining the ferocity he’s displayed over the years.

“I’m not worried at all,” Meriweather said, via The Washington Post. “I’m going to go out the same, play aggressive, do all the things I’ve been doing — just lower my target down even more.”

Meriweather is playing under a one-year contract, so he might have to be careful if he wants to land another deal in the offseason, especially after vowing to alter his tackling.

The 30-year-old was drafted by the New England Patriots 24th overall in 2007, and recorded 12 interceptions over four seasons playing under Bill Belichick. He later joined the Chicago Bears for a season before spending the last two years with the Redskins.
