Cole Hamels had six no-hit innings going against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field on Monday, but after throwing 108 pitches in the 90-degree heat, the Philadelphia Phillies turned to their bullpen.
Luckily, the Philly relievers kept rolling for Hamels.
Jake Diekman and Ken Giles handled all of their batters in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, and former Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon shut down his three in the ninth to complete the first combined no-hitter in Phillies history.
The Phils won 7-0.
The feat was the 12th no-hitter in franchise history and only the 11th combined no-hitter in MLB history. The Seattle Mariners used six pitchers to earn the last one against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 8, 2012.
