Sunday presented a full schedule of NFL games, which was a nice diversion from one of the ugliest weeks in league history. Sunday also presented two popular talking heads a chance to give their takes on the situation.

Much of the conversation centered around Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who was indicted Friday and charged after child abuse allegations. It’s a hot-button topic with very polarizing views.

One view came from Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter. The former Vikings star spoke passionately on ESPN’s “NFL Countdown,” as he condemned Peterson’s alleged abuse of his 4-year-old son. Carter called on his own upbringing for context.

Charles Barkley weighed in with a much different opinion. The former NBA star told Jim Rome on CBS’ pregame show that he understands where Peterson was coming from and explained how the running back’s Southern upbringing might explain his seemingly antiquated parenting techniques.

Peterson didn’t play Sunday, as the Vikings were blown out by the New England Patriots. It’s still unclear how the Vikings and the NFL will handle the situation.
