David Ortiz had two reasons to smile in the first inning Thursday.

Ortiz faked a bunt on the first pitch of his first at-bat, prompting Derek Jeter to race toward home, albeit a few seconds late. The two shared a laugh over the mind games, which Ortiz brought to another level seconds later by absolutely smoking a home run into the right field seats.

Ortiz’s first-inning home run was the first of two for Big Papi off Chris Capuano on Thursday. The New York Yankees enjoyed the last laugh, however, as Mark Teixeira and Chase Headley drilled a pair of home runs off Koji Uehara in the ninth inning to seize a 5-4 win.
