Derek Jeter said he’d be in the lineup at some point this weekend, and he’s kept his word.
Jeter took Friday night off after an emotional final game at Yankee Stadium, but he’s back in the fold Saturday afternoon against the Boston Red Sox. The future Hall of Famer will be New York’s designated hitter and hit second in the middle game of his final series with the Sox at Fenway Park.
Despite pleas from Red Sox fans at Fenway on Friday night — fans chanted Jeter’s name for much of the night — the shortstop did not enter the series opener.
Jeter’s game Saturday will mark the 143rd of his career in Boston. He’s a lifetime .265 hitter with 14 home runs and 75 RBIs in his career at Fenway.
Jeter and the Yankees will take on Joe Kelly on Saturday afternoon. Masahiro Tanaka will make the start for New York.
