John Farrell, Dustin PedroiaThe Boston Red Sox will open their three-game series with the New York Yankees on Tuesday night, as they wrap up their 10-game road trip.

The Red Sox again will be without Dustin Pedroia, who was elbowed in the head during Saturday’s 7-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The second baseman, who sat out the past two games, suffered concussion-like symptoms after taking the hit.

Brock Holt will fill in for Pedroia on Tuesday, playing second and leading off. Will Middlebrooks will start at third base and bat seventh.

Joe Kelly will toe the rubber for Boston, looking to earn his first win in a Red Sox uniform in his first career start against New York. Kelly was solid in his previous outing for the Red Sox, surrendering just two earned runs on three hits over six innings Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Kelly was pulled after just 86 pitches, though, for precautionary reasons, stemming from shoulder discomfort he experienced in his previous start. Kelly will oppose Yankees right-hander Shane Greene this time.
