Jameis WinstonFlorida State will be without its Heisman Trophy winner for the entirety of Saturday’s game against Clemson.

After initially being suspended for just the first half of the game, Florida State has decided to suspend starting quarterback Jameis Winston for all four quarters, the university announced late Friday night.

“Based upon the results of our continuing investigation of Tuesday’s incident involving Jameis Winston, we have decided to not play him for the entire game against Clemson on Saturday night,” interim Florida State president Garnett S. Stokes and athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a joint statement Friday night.

Winston’s suspension stems from an incident that occurred Tuesday, as he reportedly stood on a table and yelled an explicit phrase that has been made popular by an Internet meme. The star quarterback apologized for his actions at a press conference Wednesday, calling it a “selfish act.”

While the school received some backlash for what many believed was too light a punishment, it appears that the increased suspension is due to differences in Winston’s version of the events and what really happened, according to reports.

This is just the latest in a string of off-field problems involving the 20-year-old, as he was accused of sexual assault in 2012 and received a citation for shoplifting crab legs at a local supermarket in April.
